April 2, 2008 Regular Meeting
HIGHLIGHTS OF APRIL 2, 2008 HCDA REGULAR MEETING
Following is a summary of actions taken at the April 2, 2008 meeting of the Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA).
Interim Lease for Building 36 at the Former Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii
The Authority approved the execution of an interim
lease between the United States of America and the HCDA for Building 36
at the former Naval Air Station Barbers Point in Kalaeloa. The
lease will be for an approximate 1.5 acres parcel of land, including
the existing Building 36 and an adjacent parking area. The lease
would be at less than fair market value. HCDA has requested
transfer of the property via a homeless assistance public benefit
conveyance and is in the process of completing its application and
securing the necessary approvals. The Hawaii Public Housing
Authority (HPHA) has requested use of Building 36 for its last homeless
shelter in Kalaeloa. The HPHA operates three homeless
shelters/programs at Kalaeloa and one at Kaka‘ako. HCDA would
then enter into a memorandum of understanding with HPHA for use of
Building 36. The Attorney General’s office is working on
finalizing the execution of the lease and obtaining the Governor’s
approval.
