Kaka'ako Makai Advisory Working Group Process
An
informational update was given on the ongoing process to organize an
Advisory Working Group (AWG) that offers multiple avenues of outreach
and ways for the public to participate. The AWG will advise the
Authority on land uses for waterfront lands in Kaka'ako's Makai
Area. The process is designed with two phases.
Phase 1 includes actively reaching out to stakeholders and soliciting input in a systematic manner, identifying key issues and ideas on future uses for Kaka‘ako Makai, providing recommendations on the composition as well as roles, responsibilities and procedures for the AWG, and establishing a process for selecting a permanent facilitator for the second phase. This outreach includes the participation of community and environmental organizations; Kaka‘ako landowners, tenants and businesses; professional organizations; government agencies; educational and cultural groups; and elected officials.
Phase 2 involves development by the AWG of a strategic plan which will include a vision, guiding principles, and an action plan for Kaka‘ako Makai for the Authority’s consideration. It is anticipated that Phase 2 will include numerous open community meetings and workshops to solicit ideas and opinions on the future of Kaka‘ako Makai. To ensure continued community involvement in the future planning of Kaka‘ako Makai, the AWG will continue to advise HCDA on the detailed planning, design, and development even after Phase 2 work is completed.
