Planning the Future of Kakaako Makai

The Hawai‘i Community Development Authority (HCDA) is inviting the community to a weekend of public meetings to gather input on the future planning of the Kaka‘ako Makai District. These collaborative sessions will be held on January 30, 31 and February 1, 2010 at the John A. Burns School of Medicine.

The Kaka‘ako Makai District offers the potential of becoming the gathering place for residents of Honolulu and visitors alike. The HCDA has worked with community groups represented by the Kaka‘ako Makai Community Planning Advisory Council (CPAC) and other stakeholders in establishing a vision and guiding principles for future development of the area. You can access  the vision and guiding principles  at  the following link: http://hcdaweb.org/kaka-ako-makai-advisory-working-group

The goal of this public workshop is to build on the vision and guiding principles and develop “gathering place” concepts for Kaka‘ako Makai. During the workshop participants will learn what makes popular gathering places in Hawai‘i and other national and international communities work, assess the opportunities and constraints, and identify programs, uses, and activities that will contribute to sustainable development of the area.

You can access the details about the workshop here (pdf file 1.6MB).

Registration for the workshop is not required, however, you can call (808) 594-0311 and leave a message if you intend to attend.
