Kaka'ako Projects
- Road Improvements
-
The HCDA is continuing its progressive District-wide program to improve and enhance Kakaako's infrastructure system. Completed improvements to the District's roadways and utility systems are being enjoyed by the visitors, merchants, landowners and residents of Kakaako. The improvements are also facilitating the redevelopment of Kakaako
- Parks
-
The Kakaako District currently contains over 44 acres of public park areas for the enjoyment of Hawaii's residents and visitors. The HCDA's plan for Kakaako Makai is to create a gathering place with an abundance of parks and open spaces, spacious tree-lined streets and sidewalks that enhance and enrich Hawaii's outdoor environment.
- Affordable Housing
-
The State of Hawaii’s need for affordable housing is well documented. With the shortage of public funds, the high cost of construction, and the lack of available land, clearly, creative solutions must be found to meet this need. For anyone who has felt the bite of the affordable housing shortage, Kaka‘ako represents an opportunity to be part of the attractive and convenient residential community—of varying incomes, ages and family groups—there.
- Private Sector Projects (Commercial/Residential)
-
Over the years, Kakaako has evolved as a vibrant, attractive and diverse community of neighborhood businesses and merchants that serve both residents and visitors. The HCDA has encouraged the development of commercial projects in Kakaako that will serve the State and contribute to Hawaii's economy.
