In an effort to broaden usage and enjoyment of the public State parks in the Kaka‘ako District and in keeping with Governor Linda Lingle’s initiative to have all State permitting online by 2010, the Hawai‘i Community Development Authority (HCDA) now provides the option of user-friendly "Web Forms" in the Kaka'ako Parks Permits section of the Authority’s website.
Click here to go directly to the Parks Permits page.
“The Web Forms allow users to go online, fill out and send in their permit applications for general park use and sports events,” said HCDA Executive Director Daniel Dinell. “Users may also print the permit application form and fax, mail, or deliver the form to HCDA.”
Permits are required for groups of 25 or more to use Kaka‘ako District parks. Permits are also required for school groups or outings, sports events and league activities, as well as for large groups (50 or more) for picnics.
The Kaka‘ako District currently has more than 44 acres of park space for the enjoyment of Hawaii residents and visitors at the three district parks maintained by HCDA:
The five-acre Kewalo
Basin Park, which opened in 1990, includes a scenic pedestrian
promenade along the existing seawall, bollards, trellises, observation
and picnic areas, a public comfort station and shower facilities, along
with parking for 110 cars.
The Kaka'ako
Waterfront Park, which opened in 1992 on the seaward reach of the
Kaka'ako Peninsula, features over 30 acres consist of contoured,
rolling landscaped mounds, a striking 20-foot wide pedestrian
promenade, in addition to comfort stations, picnic areas, an
amphitheater, an observation area that offers striking views, and the
Ehime Maru and MADD memorials.
The Kaka'ako Makai Gateway
Park fronting Ala Moana Blvd. is an attractive six-acre park that now
serves as a visible "gateway" to, and extension of, the Kaka'ako
Waterfront Park. The Gateway Park’s large landscaped lawns and festival
grounds provide space for recreation and social activities.
To ensure that the three Kaka‘ako District parks are accessible for the use and enjoyment of all park users, HCDA reminds the public that the parking lots for the parks are exclusively for park patrons. HCDA appreciates the public’s help in abiding by all park rules.
