Construction work is completed on the Improvement District 12 (ID-12), a project that enhanced the infrastructure on segments of Ahui, Ohe and Olomehani Streets in the Kaka‘ako Waterfront.  The Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA) undertook ID-12 to continue its effort to improve access and traffic circulation in the Kaka‘ako Waterfront and to set the stage for waterfront development along the Kewalo Basin edge.  The project has greatly improve the area’s infrastructure  as well as the aesthetic appearance. The area has also become a much safer and more pedestrian friendly environment.  ID-12 included improvements to Ahui Street, from Ilalo Street to the Point Panic parking lot; Olomehani Street, from Ahui to Ohe Streets; and the realignment of Ohe Street, from Ilalo to Olomehani Streets.  Improvements also involved upgrading the sewer, water, and drain systems; new roadway pavement with sidewalks, curbs and gutters; landscaping; and the undergrounding of utility lines.  Also, Koula Street, between Ilalo and Olomehani Streets, was permanent closed.   Final subdivision approval has been requested and deeds are being prepared, as needed, for the dedication of the improvements to the City.

    
The ID-12 project contractor started work on Ahui Street first.  All new underground infrastructure has been completed and work has now begun on the sidewalks, curbs, gutters and roadway.  The contractor is targeting October 2006 to open Ahui Street. The next phase of work will involve Ohe and Olomehani Streets and is anticipated to be completed by February 2007.  The contractor will attempt to keep the roadways open at all times; however, in the event that roadways must be closed, traffic will be diverted to adjacent streets.
