Improvement District 7 - Kamakee Street Extension
This $11 million project involved infrastructure improvements and a
realignment of Kamakee Street (from Queen Street to Kewalo Basin) and
creation of a four-way signalized intersection at Ala Moana Boulevard
and Ala Moana Park Road. These major improvements involvd: the
installation of water, sewer and drainage systems; the widening of
roadways; the construction of curbs, gutters and sidewalks; and the
undergrounding of electrical and telephone lines.
The ID-7 Project constructed improvements to the last major segment of
the drainage system for Kakaako's Mauka Area. The Kamakee Street
improvements and realignment greatly improves traffic circulation
through the Kakaako District and created a new, direct link between
Kakaako and the Ala Moana Beach Park.
Construction of the ID-7 project began in November 1999. The project
was completed by early 2002.
